What we do

Karen Aston Design offers a complete interior design and decoration service provided in collaboration with her network of experienced builders and trades people, or with the client’s own preferred builder or architects. Included in this network is a comprehensive source list of trade suppliers to the interior design industry, providing a vast array of unique product choice.

We partner closely with homeowners, builders and architects to develop extraordinary design concepts.

In the residential environment, the design emphasis is on solutions that improve and enhance each space, ultimately providing a room or home that is comfortable, stylish and individual. Karen guides her clients through the design process with a considered assessment of their lifestyle and aesthetic requirements.

Having an advocate who understands your style and speaks the same language as your build team is essential, so every element works in harmony.

The structure of the design process depends on the scope of the project.

For larger projects an initial consultation will be scheduled  (usually 1-2 hours duration), with time spent discussing plans or ideas and clarifying and refining the design brief. A written design review is then provided, including a detailed breakdown of the brief and a proposal for design services.

For smaller projects, such as a single bathroom, kitchen makeover or furniture update with layout and specification, design services will commence from the first meeting. An estimate of any further time required can be provided following this initial consultation within a written summary of the brief.  The design process may involve taking measurements, photographs, proposing colours/finishes, and suggesting fixtures and fittings. The overall look and colour palette is worked up from this meeting.

Budget and time constraints differ for each project. Some require everything to be specified, sourced and installed all in one process, as with a major renovation or re-build, whilst others evolve over time.  The design time required will also depend on the client’s level of involvement in the project and how quickly/easily they make decisions.

The goal is to plan a space that feels completely connected to how the client lives or works to ensure a smooth and worry-free experience that saves time, money and avoids costly mistakes.
